The Risks and Benefits of Western Educational Institutions in Central Asia: Lessons for Developing Education Systems

The Afghanistan Economic Sustainability Forum (AESF) is pleased to announce an upcoming online webinar:
“The Risks and Benefits of Western Educational Institutions in Central Asia: Lessons for Developing Education Systems”
This webinar will explore the impact of Western educational institutions on education systems in Central Asia, highlighting key insights and lessons relevant for developing countries, including Afghanistan.
Our guest speaker will be Mr. Gregory Herne, an accomplished academic and educator. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Modern Languages from the University of Oxford (UK). He is the founder of the National Philosophy and Critical Thinking Olympiad of Kazakhstan, has served as the coach of Kazakhstan’s National Team for the International Philosophy Olympiad, and is also the founder of the Et Seq KZ Philosophical Association.
Ill Afghanistan Case Study:
In the concluding part of the webinar, Mr. Musa Ayaz will present a detailed case study on Afghanistan’s education system, focusing on its policy challenges, opportunities, and structural dimensions.
Mr. Musa Ayaz holds an MS in Islamic Finance from Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and a BS in Economics from the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). He has also served as the former Deputy Finance Officer at ACB, bringing both academic and professional experience to his analysis.
This webinar aims to encourage critical discussion on education reform, cross-regional learning, and the role of policy in shaping sustainable education systems in developing contexts.
